Every student growing up can at some point see that writing papers and essays are always only going to be for the instructor or teacher. But obviously as we grow up we end up seeing that maybe there is a reason for writing such essays, especially in college when they may or may not be published in a college journal of some sort. So obviously, this statement is totally wrong in any sense. As people write they should be writing to enter a bigger and worldwide "conversation" that is going on. This is to add to the conversation as anyone would when they're really talking with a group of people.
"Pretty much everything you read in textbooks is true"
Not every single thing in a textbook is true. Yes, a lot of it is.. but textbooks, as along with every book, has their own authors too. It was explained to me by my APUSH teacher in high school about textbooks. He explained to us that the content in our textbooks were of history but that these historic events were being told by the authors prospective and view.. show actually there is still some area of grey whether we know an event was true or not because maybe a slip of bias here and there from the author. It's the same for every other textbook.. what might be helpful and beneficial to them as they write a textbook about how to write essays or English comp may not actually be helpful and beneficial. It is based on their point of view just as someone giving someone else advice.
